Who inspired you to perform?
It was 2014, I was just 18 years old and had not even come out to my family yet. I went with a friend to my first ever drag show at Scooters Bar in Eau Claire WI.
The first queen I ever saw was Jem Stone. She was so beautiful and had such a confidence on stage. I was completely and utterly obsessed!! I knew in that moment that I was meant to do drag and I wanted to be exactly like her.
A few months later, I expressed interest in starting drag so Jem offered me a spot in the upcoming Pride show. I went to the mall and bought a slutty dress and some 6 inch heels and the rest is history!
What scares you about drag? What excites you?
When I started drag, I was terrified every time I went on stage. “What if people hate me? Will I look stupid?” These are questions I’d think to myself so often. But over time I’ve learned this; let them hate you and go out there and look stupid! As long as you are having fun and being yourself then what other people think shouldn’t matter to you. l’ve learned to focus on the love and tune out the hate. It’s not worth my time!
Everything about drag excites me! There are endless possibilities of what I am able to do next and I never want to set a limit for myself.
This art form is moving so far into the mainstream and it’s getting harder and harder to stand out. I’m always pushing myself to be better and to never be stagnant. I am always improving and elevating my craft so that I can be the best version of myself.
Besides yourself, ;) who is your favorite drag queen/king?
It’s hard to pick just one because I love so many queens for different reasons but I’ll give my top three!
Roxxxy Andrews has always been a symbol to me of drag excellence. She has an impeccable eye for detail and her polish is unmatched.
I’m constantly in awe of Onya Deek’s work ethic. She is probably the hardest working queen I know and she does it with such a positive attitude that is so infectious. When she is on stage I can’t help but feel happy!
Naomi Small’s has been a favorite of mine for a long time. She is such a fierce entertainer and her movements on stage are so clean and effortless. Like a fashion editorial come to life.
What is your favorite costume/outfit?
My favorite look is usually whatever I’m currently working on. Fashion is definitely my favorite aspect of drag and what keeps it exciting for me.
At any given time, I usually have at least two new outfits in the process of being made and then I’m sketching more ideas to do next!
My evenings at home are spent sewing outfits, glueing rhinestones, and styling wigs. It’s my own little sweat shop and I’m the only worker!
How do you stay motivated?
In order to do drag and do it successfully, you have to have a genuine love for the art form and a desire to show it off!
My drive and motivation comes from my passion for drag. I really love what I do and nothing in the world makes me happier.
The money and the attention helps too! ????
